BBC News Festival

Challenge

  • To convert the conference and presentation area on the 5th floor at the Media Centre, White City to a dedicated TV studio for panel interviews, a large exhibition area and reception for attendees.
  • To design graphic walls that would represent key news events throughout the year and provide a focal point for review and discussion.

Solution

  • The reception area was transformed using uplights and specialist drapes, plasma screens based around a central display presentation area carefully constructed from back lit graphic panels surrounding an HD projection system.
  • The reception area naturally led in to the main walkway lined with the news graphic panels and then into the exhibition area with stylish pods and counters for each display.
  • In the presentation Hall a central box truss was used to house the lighting and projection systems for a fully HD camera system relayed on screens and around the BBC main ring. The stage set was constructed from a back wall of the news graphic panels.

Results

  • Although this was a challenging build environment requiring precision planning and exceptional attention to detail, the two day festival was a great success. A complete television studio feel was recreated and balanced perfectly alongside a fantastic hospitality, exhibition and networking centre.
